Brian has been a fan of Wolverine (especially as portrayed by Hugh Jackman) for some time. Some years ago, he even dressed up as Wolverine for a local Halloween activity organised by friends – complete with the X-Men belt buckle, Logan’s dog tag, and some disposable plastic knives which he painted greyish silver and turned into Wolverine’s claws.
In April 2019, Brian had a submitted accomplished entry form to the 52nd Bendigo Rotary Club Easter Art Show (we have absolutely no idea whatever happened to the 51st Rotary Club Easter Art Show!…suddenly, it was already the 52nd…must be a time warp), a blank canvas, and a week to go before submission of the actual art works at the Bendigo Town Hall. He knew he was submitting a 4th artwork, but was unsure yet of what it was going to be, thus he just named it as “Abstract”.
Inspiration often comes late, and this time, Brian was inspired to paint Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. That is what he did, using acrylic paints, plus a bit of pastels. The result was this stunning piece, which made it to the town hall in time, and was quickly sold during the show.
